MARK HOPE

I’ve always had a creative spirit in some form or another since childhood. I wish to devote my life to live through my senses. Painting allows me to do that. Today, being an artist is not so much what I do but who I am and I love being an artist. I find that painting and other mediums can be tools for learning about myself and learning to see. The act of active observation is a very intimate thing. Discovering my subject through observation, connects me forever to it. Observation is a vehicle for my imagination.

I am primarily a  painter, working in oils. My subject matter varies and is mostly a representational exploration of light and colour . I work with soapstone as a sculpting medium and have found Henry Moore to be a strong influence in my work. I also enjoy black and white photography. My strongest influences are from the impressionists, the Group of Seven, Salvadore Dali, Henry Moore..
