JANET DONAGHEY

For most of her life, artist Janet Donaghey was an urban dweller, living in both Toronto and Sydney, Australia. Eleven years ago she moved to the rural and scenic Horseshoe Valley near Barrie, Ontario.  A mixed media and textile artist, Janet creates using vivid and rich colours and an interesting variety of textures. Rich, exotic silks and coarse burlap; paint and paper; threads, screen and plastic mesh; are all integral parts of her practice.

In the past, Janet made silk wall hangings of ornately embellished houses. Collage was the medium for her urban scenes. Now her focus is on abstract landscapes, which represent place. Current inspirations for her compositions include the red earth and rainforests of Australia, crumbling stone walls and cave drawings in France, and the scenic beauty of  trees, farmland and hills in Ontario.
