Douglas Brown’s interest in painting and drawing has continued to develop since he attended childhood classes at the Art Gallery of Ontario. He studied under John Hall and W.E. Carswell at the faculty of Architecture. Upon graduation took up evening studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design where he studied drawing under Jack Nicholls, watercolour painting under Aba Bayefsky and Chinkok Tan and printmaking under Frederick Hagen. Douglas actively pursued painting on weekends and holidays through the years always setting time aside for fall sketching trips and never traveling without a sketchbook.
Over this period of time he took classes and or participated in workshops with Ray Loos, Jack Reid, Frank Webb, Brian Ayteo, John Bennett, Ed Cronk, Gerry Puley, Margaret Roseman and Paul Deegan.
