Freeman Patterson in his book “Photography and the Art of Seeing” describes seeing, in the finest and broadest sense, as using your senses, your intellect, and your emotions. It means encountering your subject matter with your whole being, looking beyond the labels of things and discovering the remarkable world around you.
Throughout my life I have sustained an intense relationship with the natural world. For years I have been selecting and revisiting areas in Ontario, and abroad, that offer pause for reflection. While contemplating these scenes I try to envision the process of natural events that created these environments, fueling my emotional engagement with them. I then use the properties of light, through season and time of day, to record an image with my camera that approaches the picture I have in my mind.
An outdoor enthusiast for over 30 years, my passion is capturing the beauty of nature in my images. Manipulation of the image after capture is minimal, the goal being to present the subject in as natural a way as possible. My prints involve the use of selected art materials and technology to attain unsurpassed color fidelity and longevity.
