After studying Art History at the University of Toronto, Brett pursued a career in jewellery making before discovering the craft of making furniture. A brief but intensive design course taught by Michael Fortune led to a developing admiration for woodworking and his current pursuit building studio furniture. Brett founded Merganzer Furniture and Design in 1995 and worked on his own for seven years before hiring an assistant. He designs and builds one of a kind custom furniture and limited run studio furniture in Toronto’s west end.
EXHIBITION
Exhibition Statement: March’s “group of seven” from the Mad and Noisy gallery will examine methodologies of abstraction and minimalism through mediums of silver, encaustic, paper, paint, stone, and digital imagery. Whether it’s depicting the bare essentials or altering imagery beyond the literal, each artist’s imagery celebrates the elements and principle of design, while simultaneously increasing the accessibility to the work. We invite you to take in this ethereal collection of works that celebrate the notion of ”less is more” through accomplished studies of colour, line, shape and form.
